NES Fircroft Receives First Certificate Recognising The Purchase Of Carbon Credits To Offset Carbon Footprint

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve received our first certificate this week, recognising our purchase of carbon credits to offset our footprint.

Last month we published that, in line with our ESG strategy, we've offset our entire staff travel for 2021 by investing funds into sustainable global projects in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Now, upon receipt of our first certificate, we’re able to share more information on some the projects we’ve committed to funding.

Amayo Wind power project

The project is in southwest Nicaragua, and is a Wind Power Class 7 site, the highest rank for wind speed. It generates and delivers renewable, affordable, and clean electricity to the Nicaraguan grid and supports local development through national educational site visits and promoting sustainable land use which includes beach clean ups and helping with reforestation. When the project first started, the Nicaraguan grid depended principally on either fuel oil or diesel. The project displaces this fuel-based technology, increasing the supply of electricity and reducing rolling blackouts in the country. The enhanced reliability of supply has improved living conditions, stimulated the economy and boosted employment.

Breathing Space improved cookspace - India

This voluntary programme focuses on providing more energy efficient cookstoves to domestic households in rural India, reducing fuel use and lowering household pollution. Traditionally, inefficient cook stoves commonly referred to as chulhas, are used for cooking. These produce substantial GHG emissions and particulate matter into kitchens and houses through burning non-renewable biomass, negatively affecting lung health, especially of women who prepare the majority of meals. By switching to more efficient cookstoves, not only is health improved, but also less firewood is consumed which leads to avoided forest degradation.
