Subsea Supervisor Engineer – Contract Role

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Senior Subsea Engineer – Wells for subsea P&A activities to support the MODU and LWIV campaigns (52 wells).  The role will support the overall Wells Subsea Team to ensure that the subsea P&A equipment and operational planning aspects maximise safety and efficiency in accordance with our objectives, standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
Primarily the position is onshore, however may require offshore shifts as required.  Assists the Wells Subsea Team Lead and other Wells Senior Subsea Engineer to support the mobilisation and operations for P&A and intervention campaigns as required.

At the senior level, the job holder will be expected to work independently and will be involved in technically challenging projects, which require the application of technical expertise and experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the Subsea Engineers, Subsea Supervisors, Wells Superintendent, Well Engineers and other key team members to plan, develop and execute the MODU and LWIV P&A campaign, ensuring all activities are undertaken in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner and in strict compliance with Company standards and procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Supports offshore operations, working closely with subsea team lead, subsea engineers, offshore subsea supervisors, key contract subsea personnel and rig contractor personnel.  Participates in the communication, planning and decision-making processes to ensure programmes are delivered safely and effectively.
  • Develops a high level of responsibility and ownership within the team and promotes continuous improvement in the development of technical expertise and competency, standards and practices, commercial awareness and innovative thinking.
  • Works with the subsea team to ensure that all the required subsea P&A equipment (owned and rental) is maintained, inspected, prepared, interface checked and accepted in line with approved plans, timescales and operational contingencies.
  • Participate in the design and choice of subsea equipment, taking into account the QA/QC concern during subsea campaign
  • Works with the subsea team to ensure materials, services and equipment are available in line with well schedules and operations.
  • Works with contractor/vendor companies to ensure that all relevant documentation is systematically recorded, auditable and traceable.
  • Ensures an effective interface and communication process is established between the team, other teams and external/3rd party representatives to ensure clear understanding of project objectives/work programmes, encourage open transfer of knowledge and information and to identify, record, track and close out actions in an effective and timely manner. 
  • Prepares and reviews subsea P&A procedures and practices through the effective and efficient review of detailed programmes, peer reviews, risk assessments, programme reviews, etc.  Monitors and records issues during well activities to ensure these activities do not impact asset safety and environmental performance.
  • Organises pre-job meetings and risk assessment as required
  • Supervise specialist contractors activities
  • Prepare and keep up to date subsea procedures
  • Manages maintenance of subsea spares including all documentation
  • Ensure that contractor selection is carried out in accordance with Company requirements and that safety and environmental assessments are part of the selection process
  • As contract rep, plan and conduct QA/QC audit of contractors
  • Makes visits offshore to enhance onshore-offshore relationships and communications are maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
  • Degree in a technical/engineering discipline or comparable practical subsea operations management experience
  • Offshore Survival Training Certificate, UK Medical and MIST
Preferred
  • Fully certified by a recognised Well Control Authority for drilling activities e.g. IWCF to Subsea Supervisor level.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Essential
  • Previous experience of a similar role within operator
  • Strong technical knowledge in the Wells Subsea area gained from demonstrable extensive experience of Vertical and Horizontal Xmas Tree (XT) systems, associated tooling and Completion / Workover (C/WO) riser systems.
  • Experience of supervising MODU and LWIV offshore subsea drilling, completion, intervention and abandonment operations.
  • Experience of identifying, contracting/sourcing, maintaining, inspecting, preparing, interface checking and accepting subsea equipment.
  • Experience of working on a range of different tree configurations from different suppliers (campaign includes BH triple bore, OSS VHT, BH VXT, FMC HXT, OSS HXT and BH HXT).
  • Up to date knowledge of technological developments, industry initiatives, etc.
  • Proven relationship-builder at all levels – internally and externally.

Preferred
  • Previous experience of working on subsea well abandonment campaigns
