Purpose of Role: 

  • This role is a senior position in the HSE team and supports the Energy & Emissions Manager in the provision of principally the energy transition of the UK business.
 

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

  • Support the Energy & Emissions Manager in the development and delivery of the UK Business Units climate change and energy transition commitments, enact the Company’s net zero commitment and lead performance reporting and assurance in line with regulatory requirements and targets
  • Engage proactively with relevant stakeholders including partners, NSTA, OPRED, OEUK and NZTC.
  • Influence and collaborate so that energy transition risks and opportunities are reflected in business decisions.
  • Provide input and advice on asset lifecycle energy transition requirements and considerations in line with regulatory requirements and Company commitments to drive performance improvement.
  • The coordination and determination of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions forecasts to inform the net zero strategy, development opportunity scenario analysis, Company and asset annual scorecard content, long range planning, business development and field development plans.
  • Provide briefings and advice to management on emerging risks and opportunities in the energy transition sector as well as interpretation of UK environmental legislation, EU Directives, global treaties and other industry guidance.
  • Ensures consistency of approach and integrity of energy and GHG emissions management across the Business Unit activities and alignment with our net zero commitments.
  • Focal point between the Energy & Emissions Team, Asset Environmental Advisors and Projects Teams to instil consistency and alignment with the Energy & Emissions annual plan, governance framework and company commitments.
  • Participate in environmental risk management activities (environmental aspects identification (ENVID), EIA, planning, procedures and work instructions), advising on pragmatic and effective GHG emissions management solutions in support of operations, and project developments and influencing project decision making.
  • Support management system development and administration.
  • Facilitate the collation of GHG emissions performance data to be presented in publications and disclosures as required by the Company.
  • Review, analyse, and report on GHG emissions performance data, particularly those metrics that relate to Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions.
  • Management of contracts relevant to energy transition.
  • Co-ordinate cross discipline engagement between the Corporate Sustainability Team, UK Business Unit HSES function, asset management and operations personnel, project teams, joint venture partners, contracting organisations and external consultants.
  • Any other reasonable duty as per instruction by your manager.
 

Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:

  • Relevant degree qualified environmental science or environmental engineering professional with extensive on / offshore industry experience in the role and with a proven track record of delivery.
  • A member of a professional body which requires ongoing CPD and working towards Chartered status (associate / principal equivalent)
  • Experience of working in a team with oil and gas operating assets, wells and project developments in an environmentally related role
  • Must have well developed communication and influencing skills and be able to work effectively across the business and HSES team.
  • A self-starter willing to take a flexible approach to work requirements with an ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Proficient level of experience of any or a combination of the following specific areas will be beneficial:
    •  Greenhouse gas forecasting, management and accounting
    • Data analysis and reporting
    • Global sustainability standards and frameworks and environmental legislation
    • Management systems and assurance
    • Full asset lifecycle operations (exploration & appraisal, production, late-life, and decommissioning)
    • Stakeholder engagement
