NES Fircroft are currently recruiting for a Principal Control Engineer for our client, who are working on a £500million+ power plant refurbishment and upgrade project.

Scope
Support the engineering activities mainly referring to DCS, PLC, SCADA systems and Process Instrumentation for nuclear applications. Design/sizing of all the major Data Acquisition and Process Components, including the identification of the “fit for purpose” hardware platform and software code solutions, from conceptual/basic to detailed design including the details necessary to manage the supply of these components according to the national (CEI) and international (IEC/EN) electrical codes

Main responsibilities
 
  • Ensure the execution of design activities according to the C&I engineering principles as well as to the best C&I engineering practices.
  • Develop Technical specs, I/O lists, Instruments lists, selection of sensors and actuators, Control System Architecture, HMI schematics development, FCD / ICD schematics, wiring diagram schematics, technical evaluation of the Supplier’s offers, technical follow-up of the supplies.
  • Follow up the manufacturing, the factory acceptance tests, the on-site installation and testing activities of the mentioned C&I systems/components.
  • Support the on-site installation activities for C&I works
  • Coordinate/Supervise both mono-disciplinary working groups, by coaching and mentoring the group itself and the individuals in technical and personal skills enabling them to deliver, and subs.
  • Identify and manage the internal & external interfaces (stakeholders within the project delivery framework),
  • Support Project Managers, Project Engineers as well as the working group in defending C&I design positions/solutions towards Client’s discussions and comments to engineering docs.

Main requirements:
 
  • Education: MSc Degree in Electric/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional experience: five+/ten years’ experience in C&I systems engineering in nuclear companies or in highly regulated industrial sectors.

Basic competences:
 
    • Design of new Control systems and integration of control systems in existing ecosystems (including upgrade or refurbishment of existing plant, e.g., NPP PLEX programs)
    • Experience in P&ID instrument selection, developing and reviewing instrument lists, instrument datasheets, and inline instrument sizing,
    • Design of DCS/PLC panels, cable list, and field JB termination
    • Knowledge of relevant Electrical norms and standard (e.g., CEI/EN/IEC) including functional safety (i.e. IEC 61508, IEC 61513) and Cybersecurity OT,
    • Knowledge of control/electrical cabinet schematic design software (e.g., Eplan, AutoCAD Electric, IGE+XAO),
    • Knowledge of nuclear specific codes and standard for safety application (e.g., IEEE 1E harsh and mild environment and CGD programs, RCC-E K1-K2-K3 levels, IEC) including development of nuclear safety functional requirements for C&I systems and environmental and/or seismic qualification programs
    • Knowledge of the relevant EU Directives (e.g., LV, EMC, Machinery, ATEX),
    • Experience in electrical on-site works including development of construction and commissioning documentation,

Additional competences:
 
    • Reading and programming PLCs (mainly SIEMENS), NI LabView and ABB platforms/controllers
    • Experience in engineering design activities relating to LV systems both at the plant distribution architecture level and at the interface level between LV PCs/MCCs, sub-distribution boards and plant C&I systems (applying legacy methods or digital buses e.g., IEC 61850) for nuclear applications,
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills,
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks within the assigned SoW, and meet deadlines,
    • Ability to work effectively in a team within a multi-cultural environment collaborating with other professionals,
    • Capability to take initiative, with a proactive attitude and personal drive, (i.e. critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making skills,
    • Attention to detail, quality, accuracy, and adaptability,
    • Ability to manage relationships: customer/supplier, between partners (in national or international JVs),
    • Good knowledge of English language (spoken and written, fluent),
    • No preclusion to trip’s time, duration, and destination.
