The Department

The Office HSSE Advisor is based in Schiedam with a primarily local focus. This role involves monitoring and managing all HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) matters for office staff and contractors, ensuring compliance with HSSE legislation as set out in relevant guidelines. The advisor will ensure that the facility/office operates in accordance with local government regulations.

The Role

  • Support project HSSE leads with safety case studies.
  • Implement, update, review, and audit the HSSE systems according to corporate guidelines.
  • Monitor and update safety and environmental procedures in line with legislative changes and company directives.
  • Promote compliance with safety procedures and equipment among all personnel.
  • Assist various departments with health and safety issues related to clients.
  • Conduct internal and external safety audits.
  • Provide technical support to senior management on safety-related subjects.
  • Liaise with clients on safety issues.
  • Participate in HAZOP and HAZID meetings for procurement, installation, and construction activities.
  • Prepare health and safety documentation for new tenders.
  • Offer HSSE support and advice, including overseeing the preparation of plans and procedures for contract start-up activities.
  • Develop and implement office HSSE policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Train employees on health and safety procedures and specific risks in their work areas.
  • Perform frequent office safety inspections, especially for equipment and work conditions.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Develop and manage incident and accident reporting procedures.
  • Address safety complaints and concerns from employees and implement corrective measures.
  • Oversee first aid procedures and employee first aid training.
  • Manage emergency procedures, such as fire drills.
  • Lead by example to foster a positive health and safety culture.
  • Ensure proper management and training of the Office Emergency Response Team in compliance with local regulations.
Job Requirements

  • Minimum diploma in Engineering with specialization in QHSE or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant HSSE experience, including familiarity with Dutch market and legislation.
  • Proficiency in English and Dutch (oral and written).
  • Certification in NEBOSH or an equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of HuR and Worker Welfare.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OSHA 18001, ISM, ISPS standards, and HSE management systems.
  • Lead Auditor certification for ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Effective communication skills with various stakeholders including management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ability to understand and apply local, state/province, and national statutes and guidelines.
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Five years of experience in Oil & Gas Offshore Construction and the Marine Industry.
