Network Engineer – 3 Months initial Contract – Remote/Bracknell
 
36 hour week
£38/hr inside IR35 via umbrella company
Possibly of the odd journey to site in Bracknell

Required:-  3+ years’ hands on troubleshooting and configuration experience in supporting large multi-national corporate networks utilizing a diverse set of technologies and vendors.  3+ years working directly in Cisco IOS and the Meraki dashboard. 3+ years troubleshooting and configuring WLAN technologies; Cisco and Meraki experience desired. working with Cisco NSO, SAE, UCS, ISE, and DUO is desired. VMware. Demonstrated ability to use IOS and Meraki dashboard in the troubleshooting and configuration of the network.  Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or comparable certification required or demonstrable work experience and skill. Comfortable collecting packet captures. Firm understanding and application of network protocols and functions including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, NAT, DNS, DHCP, SDWAN, IPAM, SDN, ACL, Spanning Tree, VLAN, OSI Model, NetFlow, TACACs.    Ability to convey complex technical topics into layman terms while under time constraints.  Ability to leverage NMS tools (such as Nagios, SevOne, LiveNX, SolarWinds, NetScout, ServiceNow, Meraki Dashboard, etc.) to diagnose & triage issues or requests. Familiarity with the use and limitations of syslogs, SNMP traps, device polling, NetFlow, and other management functions. Understanding of ITIL and its principles such as event, incident, problem, and change management. Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities at one time while meeting deadlines. Experience participating in network implementation & refresh projects. Experience working with customers remotely and over the phone to assist with network troubleshooting
 
Network Engineer Description

In this role, you will be the responsible for the operational health of my client’s network while getting hands on with technical issues. You will be the first line receiving operational and technical issues related to the network and will drive resolution through completion.  The scope of this will vary day to day and will you be expected to troubleshoot issues, will engage with service providers when their service is impacting ours, work with stakeholders or site contacts, coordinate with design and planning team for changes, and other related network tasks. 

Network Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Provide triage, analysis, and resolution of network incidents
  • End-to-end incident management, bringing in additional skilled resources as required
  • Engage or defer to other technical teams as required in resolution of incidents
  • Act as major incident manager (MIM) when incident impact warrants it
  • Provide timely updates to stakeholders or incident manager during incidents
  • Hands on troubleshooting and configuration of networking equipment including Cisco, Meraki, and others as required
  • Participate in global on-call rotation, including some weekend requirements
  • Leverage network management systems (NMS) to understand issues and pinpoint where the problem likely is and the impact it is causing
  • Collect packet captures as necessary; perform initial diagnosis of output where possible
  • Interface with local contacts and service providers as needed to resolve site connectivity, hardware, service issues; hold providers accountable to SLAs
  • Proactively identify, engage, and act on situations where “things could be better”
  • Continually evaluate network capacity and performance; make recommendations for design changes as appropriate
  • Assist with on-going maintenance of CMDB information and updates of our internal Knowledge Base
  • Fulfilment of DNS/DHCP requests such as A or CNAME record requests, new DHCP scope requests, or updating MX records
  • Implementation of changes as defined and requested by design and planning team
