About CREL The Chevron Richmond Engine Laboratory (CREL) is a customer-focused service group that supports Chevron’s research and development efforts. CREL specializes in evaluating the performance of fuels (gasoline and diesel) and fuel additives through rigorous engine testing. These tests are conducted using vehicles, automotive engine test stands, and specialized research engines.

Position Summary The Shift Technician is a vital member of the CREL team, primarily composed of skilled mechanics and technicians. This role involves operating and maintaining test engines and vehicles, ensuring compliance with testing specifications, and supporting Chevron’s fuel research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate automotive test engines and vehicles according to established specifications.
  • Monitor engine and vehicle operations, making necessary adjustments to control systems to ensure compliance.
  • Diagnose and repair issues related to test engines and control systems.
  • Maintain adequate fuel supply for all engines and vehicles.
  • Work rotating shifts (Day, Swing, Grave) and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in:
    • Automotive engines or mechanical systems.
    • Technical environments involving diagnostics and repair.
    • Monitoring and adjusting process control systems.
    • General engine knowledge through recent education or hands-on experience.
    • Basic math proficiency (including algebra).
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications
      • Basic computer literacy, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
      • Formal training in automotive technology, electronics, or automated control systems.
      • Experience working non-standard hours or rotating shifts.
      • Certifications such as ASE or equivalent in automotive mechanics.
      • Training in electronic instrumentation and diagnostics.
      Shift Schedule Technicians are expected to rotate through the following shifts every 2–4 months:

      • Morning Shift: 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM
      • Swing Shift: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
      • Grave Shift: 9:00 PM – 5:00 AM
      Workdays also rotate between Monday–Friday and Wednesday–Sunday depending on the shift cycle.
