Position Title: IT Governance Specialist

Hire Type: Full-Time, Permanent Hire

Location: Houston, TX

Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days WFH)

Position Summary:

Our client is seeking a highly motivated IT Governance Specialist to work cross-functionally within the IT organization and with business stakeholders to design, implement, and maintain a robust IT governance and risk management framework. This role will serve as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors and ensure that IT activities align with broader business strategies and goals. The individual will also support IT investment planning and execution, enforce information security standards, and improve internal IT processes.

Responsibilities:

IT Governance & Risk Management:
• Develop, implement, and maintain an IT governance framework, including relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
• Ensure IT compliance with internal controls, SOX, and other regulatory requirements through regular assessments and audits.
• Develop and maintain IT governance metrics and reporting.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external IT auditors.
• Support the enforcement and maturity of IT risk management and information security frameworks.

Business Engagement & Communication:
• Work closely with senior management to ensure IT projects and policies align with strategic business objectives.
• Help drive IT Business Partner engagement, including setting monthly agendas and supporting stakeholder discussions.
• Lead IT communications and engagement initiatives across departments.
• Assist in improving internal IT processes to best support business stakeholders.

IT Financial Management & Strategic Planning:
• Streamline and lead the IT financial management process, ensuring timely and accurate budgeting and forecasting for technology spending.
• Support Technology Strategy Committee meetings and initiatives, including investment request reviews and post-investment lookbacks.

Project Leadership:
• Lead project management activities for key IT initiatives.
• Provide guidance and support to IT teams on governance-related matters.

Experience Required:

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Industry & Technical Experience:
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in IT, Finance, Audit, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience in IT governance, risk management, cybersecurity, audit, or compliance.
• Experience with SOX compliance.
• Big 4 consulting experience highly preferred.

Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of IT governance frameworks (COBIT, ITIL, ISO 27001).
• Experience in developing and implementing governance policies and procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in communicating complex technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Certifications (Preferred):
• IT, Project Management, or Compliance certifications (e.g., CISA, PMP, CISSP).

Soft Skills:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across diverse teams and stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (inside) environment and does not typically expose the incumbent to hazardous or extreme elements. Some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
