Our client, an independent oil and gas operator, are currently hiring a HSE Specialist to join the team in Aberdeen.

Purpose of Position:
Organise the assigned BEMS sub-processes to ensure:
  • A consistent approach of this process towards the internal organisation as well as to our external stakeholders.
  • A continuous improvement in the HSE performance of our business.

Principal Accountabilities (5-9):
1. Ensure company HSEQ policies, procedures and practices are followed.
2. Ensure up to date legislative requirements within applicable procedures and documentation including emergency response training, in close consultation with applicable stakeholders, in order to assure organisations emergency preparedness.
3. Manage safe work procedures, in close consultation with applicable stakeholders, complying with company standards and legislation during executing of operational activities to assure minimisation of incidents and accidents, learning from normal work, comply and continual improve.
4. Ensure full compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, including duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Monitor and implement requirements from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ensuring timely reporting of incidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).
Where applicable, ensure operational alignment with other UK regulatory frameworks, including:
  • The Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations (COMAH)
  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
  • The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
Maintain engagement with industry bodies such as Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) to stay informed of regulatory developments and best practices. Ensure such updates are communicated effectively across relevant departments and reflected in internal systems and procedures.
5. Provide technical safety (e.g. Safety Case, fire safety, working environment, etc.) and process safety (e.g. Risk Management, Learning from Incidents, Emergency Management etc.) advice and support to the PNS departments.
6. Organize alignment with the ISO 45001 Standard (Health and Safety Management) in order to ensure H&S compliance with the Standards and continuous improvement of the organization’s environmental performances.
Perform internal and contractor’s audits on as needed basis.
7. Liaise with Sister and Corporate Organisation to align the Management System requirements

Principal Challenges (1-3):
1. Receiving input from stakeholders to ensure permits are in place timely in order not to disrupt project schedules.
2. Working with others for whom the incumbent does not have
accountability whilst these others are key to fulfil the tasks.
3. Achieving awareness and alignment between departments and multidisciplinary team their primary processes with regard to (potential) HSE issues.

Job Knowledge (JK):
• NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) required; Chartered Membership of IOSH (or working towards it) preferred.
• Experience with ISO 45001:2018 requirements;
• At least 5-10 years of experience in an equivalent role is required, preferably within the oil and gas - or chemical industry;
• Skilled level knowledge of UK HSE legislation and international HSE standards is required.

  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to offshore installations and onshore locations may be required. Participation in site inspections, audits, and training sessions as necessary.
