To ensure the safe and reliable use of nuclear infrastructure, the engineering team is expected to implement necessary modifications and resolve technical challenges.
As an engineer, you will be expected to apply your technical expertise and communication skills throughout various phases of a project. Engineering challenges within nuclear laboratories typically include a combination of the following:
- Designing and/or modifying nuclear systems and auxiliary equipment
- Supporting operational or maintenance activities within facilities and supporting systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards
- Planning, facilitating, monitoring, and managing the progress and quality of projects and design modifications within the installation
- Interacting with suppliers regarding project-related services and/or equipment; building and maintaining supplier relationships
- Writing and reviewing technical documentation such as design frameworks, drawings, FATs, SATs, SITs, implementation plans, and risk assessments
- Providing support to other departments based on your area of expertise
- Identifying and leveraging commercial opportunities for both internal and external clients
- Preferably a Bachelor’s or Master’s level of working and thinking, with engineering experience in the technical sector (e.g., Electrical Engineering)
- Ideally, experience with nuclear installations and associated standards and guidelines
- Ability to think conceptually and approach problems from a broad perspective, taking into account existing safety analyses, business strategies, etc.
- Preferably experience in one or more of the following systems: industrial automation systems, HVAC systems, fire detection and suppression systems, security systems, and their respective standards and regulations
- Experience with low-voltage power distribution and related calculations
- Affinity with and/or experience in delivering technical documentation
- Familiarity with process instrumentation and control systems, and preferably knowledge of (PLC) programming techniques
- Experience using design codes and/or designing in accordance with applicable (machinery) directives and/or standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, NEN)
- A team player with a strong safety awareness, combining motivation with a willingness to learn
- Detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Willingness to develop your skills in a nuclear environment and take ownership of assigned projects and tasks
