DRILLING SUPERINTENDENT 

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
  • The drilling superintendent’s products are wells that have been drilled/completed. The drilling superintendent has the overall responsibility for the product being delivered in accordance with the programme, at the right time and price.
  • The objective of this position is to have a manager responsible for planning and implementing the operations on the assigned drilling unit in accordance with JV’s governing documentation, goals and strategies, and the current requirements of the authorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • This position involves the overall responsibility for operations on assigned units being planned, coordinated, arranged and carried out so that health, the outer environment, the working environment, safety and quality are safeguarded in accordance with the company’s governing documentation, goals and strategies, and the requirements of the authorities.
  • The drilling superintendent is bound to actively use the operational community/network in order to raise the quality of his/her own work, and contribute towards experience transfer to other units/projects.
  • This position involves the overall responsibility for relevant professional networks/communities being actively used by everyone in the drilling superintendent’s own unit.
  • The drilling superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the authorities are complied with, including the overall responsibility for ensuring that safety inspections are carried out in accordance with current guidelines
  • The drilling superintendent has the overall responsibility for the personnel that participate, the work carried out and the services/equipment delivered being of the quality that is determined necessary by governing documentation, programmes, agreements and contracts.
  • The drilling superintendent has the main responsibility for the choice of equipment/services and for ensuring that these are ordered and delivered on time.
  • The drilling superintendent is responsible for the rig KPI’s
  • The drilling superintendent will sign invoices for received services/equipment (within certain limits).
  • The drilling superintendent is responsible for reporting exemptions/non-conformances in accordance with established procedures. This position involves responsibility for experience transfer within the drilling superintendent’s own unit as well as other units, and for ensuring that internal and external reporting is carried out. This also includes responsibility for putting forward proposals as to how the governing documentation, programmes and procedures can be improved.
  • The well superintendent has the main responsibility for that quality data from service companies and contractors are reported on the DIMS system. Quality non-conformances shall be reported.
  • The drilling superintendent must ensure that operations are monitored 24 hours a day, in accordance with established shift arrangements and instructions.
  • The drilling superintendent has the human resource responsibility for the personnel assigned, and is also responsible for coordinating the contractors and service companies.
  • The drilling superintendent has the overall responsibility for ensuring that personnel who are training to become drilling supervisor/assistant drilling supervisor/engineer in their own unit are exposed to job training situations as effectively as possible.
  • The drilling superintendent may sometimes be given similar responsibilities for well operations/well maintenance, provided he/she is qualified for these.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A relevant college/university education (this can be dispensed with if the applicant has long, relevant experience).
  • An IWCF-approved well control certificate for well operations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in drilling well related work, at least two of which must be as a drilling supervisor.
PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED
  • Very good managerial qualities. Must have a good ability to plan, communicate and motivate employees, and be a team builder.
  • Must be able to set standards and expectations as well as to give correct feedback.
  • Capable of dealing with crises and stressful situations. Independent, creative and able to make decisions.
  • Good general understanding, and excellent ability to co-operate with others.
