Control System (DCS, PLC) Engineer

Purpose of the Job:

  1. Manage multi-disciplinary studies and projects related to control systems (DCS, PLC) engineering within designated operational areas.
  2. Oversee interactions with Engineering Technical Services, Consultants, Contractors, and project executors to optimize assets and enhance revenue.
  3. Collaborate with relevant sections on control systems design and architecture.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage the feasibility of control system modifications and upgrades, ensuring consistency with standards to improve operational efficiency and asset integrity.
  • Participate in the review and refinement of control system designs, specifications, and technical documents throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to schedules.
  • Prepare Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents for project initiation and manage Project Initiation Note (PIN) deliverables in SAP, ensuring endorsements and approvals are completed.
  • Review and provide feedback on design and specification documents, facilitating timely review and resolution of issues between end-user departments and project teams.
  • Participate in safety sessions (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, HAZAN) to assess potential hazards, analyze risks, and ensure mitigation controls are implemented in line with procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between end-users and the Engineering department, resolving conflicts and ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Manage SAP Technical Management of Change (MOC) requests, optimizing resources while maintaining compliance with regulatory frameworks and schedules.
  • Conduct process simulations to assess the viability of proposed changes, working with operational teams to validate outcomes.
  • Monitor and coordinate feasibility studies of Technical MOCs, resolving any process or operational issues before proposing changes.
  • Lead new projects from the SOR stage through commissioning and handover, ensuring alignment with asset holder requirements.
Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent, with experience in control systems such as DCS and PLC.
  • Proficiency in software tools like HYSYS, PIPENET, PIPEPHASE, and FLARENET for process simulation and project management.
  • Membership in a Chartered Professional Institute is advantageous.
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication.
  • SAP certification or working knowledge is mandatory.
Experience:

  • Over 10 years of experience in control systems engineering within industries such as gas processing plants, refineries, or hydrocarbon plants.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a senior supervisory or engineering capacity.
  • Extensive experience using computer simulations for process optimization.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards and codes (e.g., API, NFPA, ASME, BS/EN, SHELL DEP).
Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Light Vehicle Driving License issued by the Qatar Traffic Department.
  • Completion of Defensive Driving training/course.
