Control Network Engineer (OT Environment) – 16 month contract – Upstream Operations Common Systems

Location: Chinchilla, Queensland
Roster: 15/13 FIFO from Brisbane
Duration: 16-month initial contract (view to extend)
Day rate: $1200/day inc super

We are seeking a skilled Control Network Engineer to provide technical support for the operability, maintenance, and integrity of process control network systems and infrastructure within the Upstream Operations environment. The position will be working in a large scale process networking environment comprised of > 420 Switches, >100 Firewalls, >35 Routers, numerous physical and virtual servers, and associated monitoring systems & hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and manage complex network configurations from proposal to completion, focusing on improving reliability to enhance production and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Principal PACO Engineer to ensure reliable and secure communications between control systems.
  • Serve as the focal point for specialist network communication configuration and troubleshooting within Upstream Operations.
  • Work with contractors to develop fit-for-purpose designs and conduct thorough reviews.
  • Assist maintenance and reliability teams in setting strategies and reviewing engineering contractor design documents, studies, and specifications.
  • Provide technical support for telecom service contracts, maximizing value through collaboration with demand managers.
  • Support the implementation of network solution architecture, network monitoring, systems integration, and the design and delivery of communication systems for safe and effective operations.
  • Provide on-call support outside of normal working hours when required.
Qualifications/Skills required:
  • Graduate in Information Technology or Network professional certification from an accredited body
  • Extensive Network configuration and deployment experience in oil and gas operations / maintenance / projects
  • Experience of project life cycle from concept development through to execution and operation including understanding factors that impact total cost of ownership
  • 5+ years of combined experience in systems design, in-house engineering, field delivery through commissioning and service work, maintenance, full project life cycle completion of varying technical complexity and scale.
  • In depth knowledge on the configuration of the Network switches, firewalls, routers (Dual MPLS Nodes), System Network Architecture, VPN and PCN Networks.
  • Knowledge of core networking protocols (IP, routing protocols, switching protocols) and troubleshooting infrastructure
  • Administration of network management servers (ESXi host, VMWare, MS Server)
  • Installation and configuration of Network Management Systems like Solarwinds, GE Pulsenet etc
  • LAN and WAN configuration and management
  • A high-level understanding of gas production and LNG processes, third-party systems integration, and familiarity with different telecom and networking system implementations using major vendors, and protocols.
  • Direct Experience with major Oil & Gas companies in well production, production processing, field compression, transmission, and storage facilities.
  • End-user customer experience and/or working in engineering organizations under in the Oil & Gas and power generation industry.
  • Understanding of compliance regulations – local and state authorities
  • Ability to work effectively in/and across multi-functional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, based in various locations.
