SENIOR SPECIALIST - AERODROME COMMUNICATION
(National – Site Based)
Some of your duties will include:
  • Responsible in managing and enhancing communication systems and protocols within the airport environment. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless, reliable, and efficient communication between various stakeholders, including air traffic control, ground services, airline operations, and airport management. Your expertise will contribute to the safety, efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness of the airport.
  • Communication Systems Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of aerodrome communication systems, including radio, telephone, and digital communication platforms; Ensure compliance with relevant aviation regulations and standards (e.g., ICAO, FAA, EASA).
  • Operational Coordination: Facilitate effective communication between air traffic control, ground services, and other airport departments to ensure smooth airport operations;  Manage and resolve communication-related issues or disruptions promptly.
  • Technical Oversight: Conduct regular inspections and testing of communication equipment to ensure optimal performance; Coordinate with technical teams for upgrades, repairs, and preventive maintenance of communication infrastructure.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs for airport staff on communication protocols and emergency procedures; Ensure that all relevant personnel are proficient in the use of communication systems.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Monitor communication activities to ensure adherence to safety and regulatory requirements; Prepare and submit reports on communication system performance, incidents, and improvements.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a key contact for communication during emergency situations, coordinating with emergency services and ensuring clear, accurate information flow; Participate in emergency drills and provide recommendations for communication enhancements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with airlines, government agencies, and other stakeholders to address communication needs and improve overall operational efficiency; Represent the airport in industry meetings and forums related to aerodrome communication.
What skills and experience do you need?
  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation, Communications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certification or training in aerodrome communication systems is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in aerodrome communication or a similar role within the airport operations industry.  Have worked at least as an Aerodrome Controller for 5 years is a must with experience in a senior or supervisory capacity is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerodrome communication systems, including radio communication, intercom systems, and data transmission technologies. Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure and handle complex situations with composure.
  • Relevant certifications in aerodrome communication or aviation safety are required.
